The Learning Directory is designed to help you to find the information you need about careers, courses, contacts and much more, in relation to the ceramics industry. It's a useful tool for Continuing Personal (and professional) Development - whether you're an employer, employee, student, trainer or HR specialist, or if you're just interested in seeing what's available.

The ceramics industry is very dynamic and constantly changing. In the UK there are hundreds of companies, from one-person-bands to huge organisations with over 4,000 employees, manufacturing and selling ceramic products. Including craft potters, the industry employs around 45,000 people in 55 different occupational areas. Ceramics is more than making pots: the industry relies on engineers, computer specialists, distributors, salespeople and retailers, customer service experts, designers and marketers to ensure its success in world markets.

The range of skills needed for these careers is enormous: IT, languages, communication, negotiation, selling, training, management and planning…the list is endless. Updating your skills to meet changing needs is vital: no-one ever gets to the limit of the skills they can acquire and there is always something new to learn. This can help not just career prospects but also personal development and self-esteem.
